Kate and Addison's turn

Here are the ones I chose for Kate and Addison's submission(read previous post).  Seriously, why don't we do "photo shoots" every day-- it's so fun!

Emma Oram, Model at Large

The website I got the twins crochet headbands at sent out an email requesting models for their products.  So, I dressed Emma up and we took a few pictures.  The pictures cannot be professional and I am far from that anyway, so here is our best effort.  I think she is pretty darn cute, but I am biased.  Once the twins wake up from their nap, it is their turn! We will she if she gets picked in the next month or so.

We've got a Scouter!

Bailey is now a Cub Scout. He started last Tuesday since he turned 8 last Sunday. He had actually come down with the flu the day before and was still sick through Tuesday afternoon. When I told him he might have to miss his first day of Scouts, he was so upset and tried really hard to not throw up. He thought as soon as he stopped throwing up, he would be better and get to go. Well, he actually didn't throw up past noon, and was so excited. Every hour, he kept reminding me that he still hadn't thrown up again and would be just fine. Since Scouts was at 6:30, we let him go. I had visions of him coming home, his new uniform covered in puke, but he was just fine.

Daddy's turn: The background in this story is nearly as important as the story itself. Four years ago I was called as the Scoutmaster for Troop 54. I have always been an avid scouter and enjoy the program in all its juvenile glory. Bailey became so enthralled with my uniform that we got him a small shirt and put the correct patches on it. He even got to come to some of the meetings. Oddly, he was more interested and more attentive at the age of four that all the scouts in the troop put together (well maybe that is not so odd). Fast forward through four years of counting down and constantly asking when he "gets to do scouts."
There was no way he was going to miss his first meeting. He was really, really, REALLY nervous but made it through the night and came home with a balsa wood wolf figure that he colored with a ball point pen.
He did good, I am proud!

Sibling Sizes

I was looking at Kate's thighs the other day and noticing that they had suddenly gotten HUGE!  I wondered how she compared with Addison and thought I should measure them.  Then came my (BRILLIANT!) idea to measure all of the children and see how they compared. Not their thighs, but head and height.  So here goes:

Head circumference (OK, so none of this is very scientific as there could be user error!)

Bailey: 21"
Emma: 20"
Nathan: 19"
Kate: 17"
Addison: 17"

I think it is funny that they are all so close in head size.  Guess you do grow into your head!

Height (also tried my best to be accurate, but who knows)

Bailey: 52"
Emma: 43"
Nathan: 34"
Kate: 25"
Addison: 25 1/2"

So there is a pattern with height.  There is 9 inches between each sibling (except the twins of course).

I did happen to measure the twins thighs just for fun and Kate's are 1 inch larger around than Addison's.

Eating pumpkin.  They love it!

Addison says "What's Up?!"

Kate looking like an English spy staring you down.

Crazy eyes Addison.

Whahhh??!!!

Bailey's Party and Not So Party

Bailey went with me last Saturday to pick out his cake and ice cream (triple chocolate fudge with milk chocolate frosting), Sponge Bob decorations and a big #8 candle.

We forgot to wrap his present, and it gets unwrapped so fast, so Ben put the present under his shirt and came out so Bailey could "open it"

Ben giving birth to Heely's, courtesy of craigslist and a spoiled little boy who never wore the ones his parents bought for them so we got Bailey brand new ones for cheap! (OK, big run on sentence, but you get the point)

Nathan really wanted to be in the picture.

Goosebumps!

The birthday boy.
Tonight was supposed to be Bailey's "friend party."  I told him he could bring three of his buddies and we could do something.  He chose Burger King with the play place.  Well, about ten minutes into the party Bailey did not feel well.  Once we got everyone packed up after they ate, Bailey ended up throwing up in an empty BK bag covered with a Toys R Us bag I had in the car.  He threw up three times by the time we got his friends home.  So, child #3 has gotten this nasty flu bug.  Hopefully this is the end!  All in all, Bailey had a great birthday and is looking forward to his baptism in a few weeks!

Happy 8th Birthday!

Today, my baby is 8.  Going into 3rd grade and sometimes talks like a 12 year old. Bailey's current obsessions are Goosebumps, Bakugan, having friends, being keeper of the TIVO remote and going online.  Bailey counts down to his birthday starting July 20th every year.  He loves holidays, wrestling and boxing with Dad.  (He gave up the Daddy a while ago) If I had to leave for the day and Bailey was left at home (hypothetical right now, of course!), he would be able to cook himself breakfast, lunch and dinner.  His specialty is peanut butter sandwiches, but he can also use the toaster rather well.  He takes good care of his little brother, and when no one is looking, Emma is still his best friend.
Ben and I had talked about posting all the birth stories of the kids on here so they get into the book.  So, if you are not interested as to how Bailey came into this world, go ahead and stop here.

Being my first baby, I had no idea really what to expect.  I think I had assumed my due date would come and presto!  Bailey was born on a Thursday, and I had only stopped working the Saturday before.  The week before Bailey came, my doctor stripped my membranes because she was going out of town soon and was trying to see if Bailey would come before then.  I had an appt. on my due date (the 17th) and there was still no signs of serious labor.  So, she stripped them again, hoping he would at least come the next day.  It wasn't until 3 a.m. on the 19th that Bailey started to knock on our door.  I woke Ben up because I wanted to go on a walk.  I wanted to keep the contractions going and thought we should walk around before actually making our way to the hospital.
I called my doctor that morning around 7, in between eating a bagel and cream cheese and watching Little House on the Prairie.  She was on call just until she left that day for her vacation.  Since we lived about a half hour away from Reno and the hospital, I wanted to make sure we left in time.  I didn't want any babies born on the side of the freeway.
We made our way to the hospital, got checked in and all hooked up.  I had a mean first nurse who talked about how she gave birth to all of her kids without pain.  She tried to convince me to keep waiting a little longer to get the epidural.  Well, after waiting and more and more pain, the crazy eyed mommy sounded possesed as she told the almost new daddy to get in the hallway and start yelling until someone brought her an epidural!  Once I was hooked up (after a reaaaallly long time because the anesthesiologist had some emergency c-sections),  I felt much better and took a nap until I was fully dilated.  I pushed for three hours before Bailey came out.  I was threatened with a c-section at the end because his oxygen was dropping so low.  They had to use a vacuum, but he did make his appearance at 9:37 p.m.  It was a loooonnnggg day.  He was 7 pounds 4 ounces and 21 1/ inches long and the most somber little thing you have ever seen.
